Christmas Holidays 2023 - 2024 Pay Rates

Applicable for QLD Health/Public Sector Employees: 


December 24 (Sunday) - Christmas Eve
  • From 1800 - 0000hrs, if you are working you should be paid 250% of your ordinary wage.
  • If you are not working but you would normally be rostered to work between these hours, you should be paid 100% of your ordinary wage.

December 25 (Monday) - Christmas Day

  • If you are working Christmas day, you should be paid 250% of your ordinary wage for your shift.
  • If you are not working and you would normally be rostered to work, then you should be paid 100% of your ordinary wage.

December 26 (Tuesday) - Boxing Day

  • If you are working boxing day, you should be paid 150% of your ordinary wage for your shift.
  • If you are not working boxing day and would normally be rostered to work, you should be paid 100% of your ordinary wage.

January 1 2024 (Monday) - New Years Day

  • If you are working New Years Day then you should be paid 150% for your shift.
  • If you are not working and you would normally be rostered to work, you should be paid 100% of your ordinary wage.

STAND DOWN on Public Holidays

  • If you are stood down and not required to work your rostered shift on a Public Holiday, then you must be provided at least 24hrs notice
  • If you are not given 24hrs notice, then you will be paid the penalty rates that you would of been entitled to, if you had worked your rostered shift

Annual Leave on Public Holidays

  • Any period of annual leave is exclusive of all public holidays for all nurses and midwives covered by this Agreement. This means that an employee cannot have their annual leave debited on a public holiday. 
  • Your annual leave will be extended by a day for each public holiday during your annual leave break.
