Case Win: Leave Entitlement Challenges

Advocacy & Support for Nurses

Whether you're navigating family responsibilities, health challenges, or in Anne’s case, Family Violence leave, it is important to know your entitlements.

Anne is a dedicated member of the NPAA South Australia branch, who faced a challenging situation regarding her entitlement to Family Violence leave.

Anne, like all employees including casuals, is entitled to Family Violence leave as stipulated by employment regulations. This leave is essential for individuals facing domestic violence situations, providing them with necessary time off to manage personal and legal matters related to their safety and well-being.

Despite being entitled to Family Violence leave, Anne encountered difficulties receiving the payment for this leave. Anne attempted to contact the designated authorities twice with no response. With this oversight affecting Anne's financial stability during a difficult time she turned to NPAA for assistance.

One of our case managers wrote to Anne's workplace, clearly outlining the legal requirements regarding Family Violence leave entitlements. This advocacy aimed to ensure that Anne received the rightful payment for the leave she was entitled to under the law.

Thanks to NPAA's advocacy efforts, Anne's workplace promptly responded and made the overdue payment for her Family Violence leave.
