Introducing Melissa Ball, NPAQ Branch Secretary for the Gold Coast Private Hospital.
Melissa received her first nursing uniform when she was five and that was it, she was becoming a nurse! Fast forward 50 years and Melissa has been nursing for 34yrs and still has the passion of that excited five year old every time she puts on her uniform.
Melissa graduated in 1988 and has worked in respiratory medicine, urology, bowel surgery, general surgery, infectious diseases, and acute medical and diagnostic cardiac. She has held positions from AIN to HNC and her current role is Clinical Nurse Level 2 Acute/ medical diagnostic cardiac.
Melissa works full time night duty “I get to see a very different side of the hospital and the patients, especially on those full moon nights” she says.
“This year I decided it was my time to do something for my colleagues and profession, so I have stepped up to become the NPAQ Branch Secretary”
Safety for staff and patients in the workplace is a priority for Melissa. Focusing on workloads, ratios and patient acuity to ensure we deliver the highest standard of care possible.
“As the first branch secretary for the NPAQ at Gold Coast Private Hospital, I am excited to be developing the role and growing the voice of our members. Together we can work towards making relevant change from within the hospital”
In Melissa’s spare time she is a self-confessed crazy chicken lady.
