Case Win: Making Workplace Meetings A Positive Member Experience

How Nurses Can Approach A Meeting With The Manager

For current and future members of the Red Unions (RUSH), here is a recent case study wherein one of our members successfully turned a potentially stressful meeting with the manager into a positive experience. Did you know that your membership includes access to dedicated and professional representatives and case managers?

In this case, one of our members of the Victorian branch NPAV, an experienced nurse based out of an Adelaide hospital, faced a difficult situation at their workplace. A few complaints had been lodged by some colleagues, which meant that our member found themselves in a situation, needing support.

Here's why reaching out to your Case Manager from Red Union Support Hub is always a good idea

• Our member initiated an informal meeting with their new manager to discuss the complaints.
• He reached out to Red Union for support during this meeting.
• The Case Manager attended the meeting, providing guidance and facilitating a productive conversation - making sure the conversation stayed relevant and on track.

The outcome of the meeting was incredibly positive.

• Both the member and his manager thanked the Red Union representative for their input.
• No disciplinary or formal action was taken against our member.
• The meeting became a vehicle to build a strong working relationship between our member and his new manager.

This situation not only resolved the immediate issue but also resulted in a healthier, more positive working environment. At the advice of his Case Manager, the member's willingness to address the issue head-on ended up benefiting both employee and employer, who, for their part, were also trying to navigate a challenging hospital environment with some historical issues.

After the meeting, our member sent a follow-up email expressing his gratitude towards the NPAV & RUSH. He even mentioned that he would encourage other nurses to join us!

This story is a great example of how the Red Unions can help its members navigate difficult workplace situations. It demonstrates how we can assist our members in proactively preventing workplace issues from escalating.
