With the support of the NPAQ we are pleased to update our members on the substantial progress of Queensland Nurses for Choice and Health (QNCH) following our successful inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on December 10, 2024.
Key Achievements
In a unanimous decision, QNCH members voted to proceed with registration at the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC). This critical step moves us closer to securing a seat at the EB12 bargaining table - a fundamental right that was stripped away by legislative changes in 2022 by the previous Labor government.
O'Donnell Legal has been appointed as our honorary legal advisor to guide us through the registration process, ensuring we meet all necessary requirements for successful registration with the QIRC.
Recent Advocacy Actions
We've been actively engaging with key stakeholders to advance our cause:
-
Written to the Director-General of Queensland Health, outlining our role in representing the large portion of nurses who seek alternative representation because it is inconvenient for them to belong to the QNMU.
-
Submitted a comprehensive letter to the Health Minister addressing the monopolistic union rules and their impact on nurses' fundamental rights
-
Highlighted our solution for achieving a 25% wage increase through administrative efficiency and local hospital control.
Executive Team Update
Our executive team brings together decades of healthcare experience:
-
Andrew (President) - Over 30 years of nursing experience
-
Robyn (Treasurer) - Over 40 years of nursing experience
-
Michelle (Grand Secretary) - Over 38 years of nursing experience
We have secured the support of NPAQ President Kara Thomas with more than 20 years nursing experience and Industrial Advisor William Parry.
Looking Forward
With NPAQ's support, QNCH is positioned to:
-
Challenge the current monopolistic and unjust union system
-
Fight for improved wages and working conditions
-
Advocate for local hospital autonomy
-
Represent members' interests without political agenda
-
Secure proper representation in EB12 negotiations
