Queensland Health fails Workload Management Standards.

Burn out

Queensland Health fails to uphold Business Planning Framework and Workload Management Standards.

Queensland’s nurses and midwives are being overworked and they are not getting breaks or other entitlements, and patient safety is compromised.

We are hearing daily about cases of nurses and midwives working extended shifts and covering for others while management puts patients’ lives at risk.

Both the other union and the Palaszczuk Government are doing nothing to help or to protect nurses and midwives.

There are agreed standards for Business Planning and Workload Management in nursing that are being ignored as managers fill gaps in shifts to keep the sinking boat called Queensland Health afloat.

Nurses fought hard to get these standards introduced to protect themselves and for patient safety.

Neither the operational managers nor our members should be put at risk, when it is the Director-General and the Minister who should be fixing these problems.

It is not as if they do not know, they just don’t have the money or the answers!

If you are being overwhelmed with work, fatigued or stressed by working incomplete rosters or unsupported, now is the time to report this in RISKMAN as a workload management issue and put the onus straight onto management, don’t let them blame you if things go wrong. Do it for yourself and for your co-workers.

If you let NPAQ know, we will take action and put QH management and the Minister on notice. Workload management is a serious issue and it is up to the Minister and the executive to fix it, today.
